I think the chart was done mostly from a total traffic perspective.<br /><br /><a href="http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/POPTHM" rel="nofollow">Here</a> is a chart of population.<br /><br />I find the purple data series the most interesting (especially since about 1980).
