More Hospital Automation
This video shows the pneumatic tube system (Europe), automated guided vehicles, and PillPick pharmacy automation system installed at St. Olavs Hospital in Norway.
The pharmacy robot at St Mary's Hospital. Isle of Wight.
It was only a few years ago that a British hospital refused to discharge me because it was the weekend and there wasn't a pharmacist available to give me my drugs to take home. Don't worry, I said, just give me the prescription for them and I'll go to the pharmacy in the supermarket and get them there. Oh we couldn't do that, they said. Why not? Well, they said, the pharmacist would need to find a doctor who could write a prescription for use outside the hospital. And what's the problem with that, I enquired. There's not a pharmacist available, they said.
Pharmacy robot will just axe the clerks. The laws will still require a pharmacist to be on hand.
ReplyDeleteI hate the 30 minute wait for the "consult" where they basically read the instructions for you.
Yeah, I know how to take pills and read instructions...
Coba
Coba,
ReplyDeleteBut surely you'd like the pharmacist to read those directions to you!
It's just about the only "free" medical service we have left. ;)
