I live in the USA and I am concerned about the future. I created this blog to share my thoughts on the economy and anything else that might catch my attention.

The "Free Lunch" Weight Loss Plan v.004
I've added a 90 day moving average to the chart. I'm pleased as long as I stay about a pound below it. That would mean that I'm losing a pound every 45 days and would reach my goal within the time frame of the following chart.
I continue to be well ahead of schedule.
On September 5th I managed to climb the 20 flights in 3 minutes and 30 seconds. That's a personal best. One might say that I worked out another 5-10 minutes standing there afterwards just breathing, lol.
When I started this plan back in June I figured it would take me 4 to 8 minutes each day depending on fitness level and mood. I'm coming in under 5 minutes most days and my overall energy level continues to improve.
The past two nights I did a bit of a marathon. On Wednesday, I watched the movie Devil while climbing. On Thursday, I watched The Green Hornet. It was a leisurely pace but that did add up to an extra 200 flights each day. Once again, I would not have had the desire (or ability) to do that had I not been climbing the 20 flights each day. As a side note, neither movie was particularly good.
Climbing a minimum of 20 flights each day has definitely become a permanent habit. I'm inching my way to the weight loss goal and intend to stay there once I arrive. No more yo-yoing.
It has been 4 months. If I had only climbed the 20 flights each day then I would still have climbed 24,400 feet of vertical (nearly 5 miles straight up). The baby steps do add up.

You are amazingly disciplined and patient. Keep it up. Most people, myself included, want results too fast. In my experience, big results don't usually happen until 6 months into a program. You are well on your way to a bear market in weight. ;)
ReplyDeleteWay to go!
ReplyDeleteBut aren't you worried that you won't keep supporting the medical care price curve? I mean, if people are healthy and don't have to go to the doctor as much, and demand goes down, won't prices go down?
Oh wait, never mind, I know plenty of people who will be happy to avoid exercising. They'll go in your place.
Keep it up!

I guess we're finding out that patience cannot be replaced by excessive debt. Who knew! ;)
Audrey,
ReplyDeleteBut aren't you worried that you won't keep supporting the medical care price curve?
Have no fear. My overall stress level is still tied to the general health of the economy.
It's perfect in a way. As the economy deteriorates and puts my nest egg at risk, my lifespan should shorten to compensate.
I wish I was completely joking, lol. Sigh.
Mark,
ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Slow steady progress is most likely permanent progress.
And the toughest to do. I loved your answer on food costs earlier...I have to rework my plan. Just a thought, have you tried quinoa...native American, cooks as easily as rice, tastes a little nutty, is about 50% protein, and has natural flouride...might be the reason the eastern Indian tribes were noted for strong white teeth, compared to the early settlers.
Costco carries it.
I'm coming in under 5 minutes most days and my overall energy level continues to improve.
ReplyDeleteThe energy increase is key to any work out program. If energy doesn't increase, it's not worth it.
Excellent work.
217 to 213 this month for me.
ReplyDeleteVery little exercise, but now that the 100-degree days are gone I can work in some more bike rides I guess.
Need to start kicking my metabolism up I guess.
fwiw, I've moving averages, I've found:
today's average = yesterday's average * 0.75 + today's weight * 0.25 to work sublimely.
I did feel a lot "lighter" the last time I lost 20lbs like this. Back then I was exercising a LOT and I guess that is the difference.
Keep up the great work stairmaster!
ReplyDeletefried,
ReplyDelete...tastes a little nutty...
I think I just had an Austin Powers moment. ;)
Troy,
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
