Family's teriyaki restaurant is feelin' the love
"Opening a restaurant is like having a baby; it's a big commitment," said Soo Yim.
Closing a restaurant is like having a nearly endless supply of babies; it's a big commitment.

Behold the combined power of public records and the Internet.
Reminds me of a Chinese joint called Ollies on Broadway near me on the West Side of Manhattan. Place was upscale in design and packed. One day,the health inspectors had enough...and they raided the place and chased out the diners in mid-lunch. Owner must have paid off though...he reopened the place under a new corporate name, different decor and menu...and it's packed again. Violations included vermin, broken refrigeration, broken employee lavatories, wage violations, immigration problems.
ReplyDeleteNo jail time, no banning from the industry.
Gotta love the restaurant biz.
fried,
ReplyDeleteAmazing story.
The best I can offer from personal experience is a restaurant in the Seattle Chinatown-International District that felt the men's restroom was a good place to store cardboard boxes (contents unknown).
You may find this hard to believe, but I have not been back there. ;)
"...Manhattan...One day,the health inspectors had enough...and they raided the place and chased out the diners..."
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading your story my mind was working about three words ahead of the text and I swore that the word 'rats' was going to be where 'diners' ended up being.
I think it was the word 'Manhattan' that put me in that mindset!
DISCLAIMER: Fried, no offense is intended, I am merely making a probably weak dig at the Wall Street bankster crowd. If you're in the financial industry, sorry.
Fritz,
ReplyDeletenow worries, i live here and we got plenty of rats...four and two legged.
Fritz_O & fried,
ReplyDeletePlenty of rats here as well. In fact, I just checked the traps in my crawlspace again today. No takers in December. Hurray!
