I live in the USA and I am concerned about the future. I created this blog to share my thoughts on the economy and anything else that might catch my attention.
I like that song, too. It's funny you mentioned that. On TV a few days ago (history channel?), there was a special on the Great Lakes Storm of 1913.
Sunk 19 ships and killed 250. Yikes! The E. Fitzgerald song disturbs me a lot more now than when I listened to it in the 70s. Drowning in freezing water sounds like a terrible way to go.
My wife and I visited Superior in the mid-90s in the summer. Even then, the water was freezing, the shores were rocky -- big rocks -- and we were attacked by biting flies. Not our best vacation.
As an added bonus, they do say our economy has "turned" the corner. I say that theory is for the Byrds. We've been turning since 2000. An object in motion tends to stay in motion, lol. Sigh.
I always loved that song. Now we're living the dream, lol. Sigh.

Mr Slippery,
ReplyDeleteGordon Lightfoot has all the greatest hits of this economy.
Sundown (1974)
Sometimes I think it's a sin
When I feel like I'm winnin' when I'm losin' again
With equal effectiveness you could have titled that chart "The Coriolis Effect of a Flushing Economy"!
ReplyDeleteBacktracking recent history it is striking that we were at -%5 RGDP just 2.5 years ago!
Fritz_O,
ReplyDeleteAwesome alternate chart title!

"...our economy has 'turned' the corner."
ReplyDeleteWould that be the same corner that prosperity is just around?
Fritz_O,
ReplyDeleteOur prosperity is turning circles.
True story:
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school I saw JP in concert. Several years later my university graduation ceremony was held in the same auditorium.
I was handed my Comp. Sci. degree by the university president in very nearly the exact same spot where Rob Halford was once "Screaming for Vengence"!
Crazy world isn't it?
Fritz_O,
ReplyDeleteIt is a crazy world!
I also saw JP in concert, only I saw them in college.
I was right up close. In hindsight, perhaps too close to the speakers.
I was in the parking lot after the show attempting to start my car. It wouldn't, or so I thought. It actually did start, I just couldn't hear it.
Once I figured that part out, the car started shaking side to side. A new mystery appeared.
Turns out a friend from high school spotted me and was pounding on my driver side window to get my attention.
My world was totally rocked that night, lol.
