I live in the USA and I am concerned about the future. I created this blog to share my thoughts on the economy and anything else that might catch my attention.
A friend of mine in the biz gave me a free copy of Borderlands; turned out to consume more of my time -- enjoyably -- than any other game I've ever had. Crazy fun.
Who's your favorite character? I've played both walkthroughs on Roland, Mordecai & Brick in single-player; Mordecai was my favorite because of the bloodwing.
I've probably spent a grand total of $1200 on virtual gaming (counting the purchase of the PS3 console) in the last 3 1/2 years.
That works out to about $1 per day. No complaints!
I also did some bowling in my youth. I mostly stuck to the marathon sessions because it was cheaper (all you can bowl in 4 hours, that sort of thing). It was never just $1 per day though, even back then (not counting inflation).
And then there's golf. It's easy to blow $31 in a day. I don't think I could afford to do that more than once a week long-term, so I end up not playing at all. (It's less fun if you don't practice.)
Roland was my favorite initially. Sometimes I'd play as a turret guy and other times as a healing grenadier.
Mordecai is a hoot. At first I used the bloodwing and it was fun. Mostly I'd concentrate on sniper and/or pistol skills though.
Lilith is probably my overall favorite when playing solo. That's assuming you find a hellfire submachine gun and/or a volcano sniper rifle and then max out her elemental skills. To quote her, "Yes! Feel it!" It is also amusing to really concentrate on her phasewalk. She's practically invincible if you do.
Brick is the only one I haven't played through to the end. For whatever reason, that character didn't appeal to me as much.
Brick's berserker mode is great for beating on things with your fists, plus it's a handy mode to save yourself just before your health runs out.
The fun with the bloodwing comes when you concentrate all your skill points in it. It'll tear through a field of spiderants like a hot knife through butter, plus shake'em down for tons of loot. Never collected more money than I did playing Mordecai.
I've done the bloodwing route. In my opinion, it can make some boss fights difficult on second pass playthroughs though.
Lilith does fantastic in the underdome expansion. The phasewalk skill really helps. She's also a hoot in the zombie expansion. Zombies don't like fire much.

ReplyDeleteCan't wait for 2.
Borderlands was crazy addicting!
ReplyDeleteEvery now and then I'll play it from the start again.
One of the cheaper games I've played, if rated by dollars (spent) per hour (played).
You are at $0.00 per hour. Nice. I'm guessing I'm down to about $0.20 per hour by now, lol.
Welcome to the new, virtualized economy.
ReplyDeleteThis is why WoW is doing so well. A weekly bowling league back in the day would cost $80/mo, easily.
WoW offers all that and more for just $13/mo.

ReplyDeleteWhat's this "probably" BS? From the guy that brags he tracks every dollar he's spent since 1972, I want the truth!
AllanF,
ReplyDeleteThat would require a lot of work. I'd have to go through all the receipts and add them up.
Um, I mean, well, not a LOT of work. I don't mean to imply that I buy a LOT of video games.
*whistles innocently*
*stares down at shoes*
Hahaha! ;)
