Vietnam War
U.S. combat units were deployed beginning in 1965. Operations spanned international borders, with Laos and Cambodia heavily bombed. American involvement in the war peaked in 1968, at the time of the Tet Offensive.
Iraq War
The Iraq War was an armed conflict in Iraq that consisted of two phases. The first was an invasion of Ba'athist Iraq by the United States and the United Kingdom, starting on March 20, 2003.

wow, that 1990s build-up is dynamite in explaining perhaps the feel-good 1990s.
ReplyDeleteI posted elsewhere today a comparison of the 1996-2006 period to the "roaring twenties", the latter also had a very strong consumer credit story to them, but did not realize we were leveraging up so significantly in the 1990s.

and probably not entirely explanatory since credit and wages are not completely correlated (I would hope high-wage people actually carry less outstanding credit).
