Parabolic Trend Failure of the Day: Hazardous Waste Treatment and Disposal Employment

I know what you must be thinking. I've already posted parabolic trends today. What makes this one so special? What makes it deserve the failure of the day? Not much I assure you! In fact, you should probably stop now. There is nothing to see here!

There is absolutely no reason to panic!

Just because we once needed 50,000+ people working in the hazardous waste treatment and disposal  industry, doesn't necessarily mean that we do now.

I am sure there is a perfectly rational explanation for this.

Perhaps the terrorists inadvertently knocked out our hazardous waste production on 9/11? That's clearly what the chart implies!

Perhaps we are simply hoarding our hazardous waste? Nothing says safe store of value like leaking radioactive pipes and tanks!

Perhaps we're simply giving up on it? You can't lose if you don't play!

Perhaps it is a sign of future prosperity for all? The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades to protect my retinas!

Hanford Nuclear Waste Cleanup Plant May Be Too Dangerous

Overall, the tanks hold every element in the periodic table, including half a ton of plutonium, various uranium isotopes and at least 44 other radionuclides—containing a total of about 176 million curies of radioactivity.

Every element in the periodic table! It's a hoarder's dream! That's right, plenty of gold and silver to be found for those who know where to look! And platinum too!

This is almost twice the radioactivity released at Chernobyl, according to Plutopia: Nuclear Families, Atomic Cities, and the Great Soviet and American Plutonium Disasters, by Kate Brown, a history professor at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

What rich abundance!

The waste is also physically hot as well as laced with numerous toxic and corrosive chemicals and heavy metals that threaten the integrity of the pipes and tanks carrying the waste, risking leakage.

There is absolutely no reason to panic!
