I live in the USA and I am concerned about the future. I created this blog to share my thoughts on the economy and anything else that might catch my attention.

Fed Chairman Boromir
It is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. - Boromir, The Lord of the Rings
Is it still possible to dose it right? They have conditioned everyone over 20 years that thin ice equals concrete and now everyone thinks they can walk on water. I'd assume they now need to overshoot to erase that piece of decades old speculator's wisdom from the hive mind. But how could they overshoot while still trying to protect the overleveredged house of cards? The shadow is getting stronger. What to do, Galadriel, is there a path?
The company has said that Autopilot and a more sophisticated Full Self-Driving system cannot drive themselves and that drivers must pay attention and be ready to react at anytime.
I must be getting old and cynical, because when I was younger I might have thought that a Full Self-Driving system would be able to fully drive itself.
That XBI sell proved to be quite timely. Still no sign of a bottoming tail on the daily charts, so apparently more to come.
Maybe we should start a pool as to how low it will go? I’ll take 70 since I’m a conservative gambler.
Anyway, glad you avoided the worst of the pain.
I’ve been playing the volatility with small-size swing trades. I’m up only slightly overall, but it allows me to channel my inner speculator while allowing my dividend growth portfolio to march on without undue tampering.
The XBI falling knife can’t fall forever. Well, in theory. *cringe*
The 30-year TIPS has moved from -0.36% to -0.04% so far this year. The 20-year Treasury (without inflation protection) now yields 2.2%. Both are starting to tempt me somewhat, based on how I expect the economy to perform long-term. And yet, I wait. Seems unlikely that I’d shed tears over those missed opportunities. And if I do shed tears for not locking in those low rates, the economy has (even more) serious problems.
The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. – Galadriel

ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteBut how could they overshoot while still trying to protect the overleveredged house of cards?
We must not speak of such things in public.

In all seriousness, a soft landing is still theoretically possible even in the most perilous of circumstances.

Sorry, it’s difficult to be completely serious about it. Gallows humor is a coping mechanism. *cringe*
