Support for Greece? (Musical Tribute)

Greek Bonds Surge as EU’s Rehn Offers ‘Support in Broad Sense’

“You have to do the necessary measures in order for us to support you,” Rehn said in an interview in Strasbourg, France today. “This will be further discussed in the coming days. We are talking about support in the broad sense of the word. I cannot specify it now.”

Update: Watchtower pointed out the perfect theme song for this post.

  1. Stag,

We are talking about support in the broad sense of the word.

At first I thought the article was talking about "woman's intuition", but then it hit me:

We should have more bailouts then. Just think, we can perpetually finance our deficits with bailouts. Wow! These Goldman guys really are the best and the brightest!

This should make the ~ 15 million underwater homeowners feel better. Much better!

Stupidity is back in vogue it seems. I really hope hey can re-flate the punzi eCONomy.

  3. So what's really wrong with Greece? Is it that they can't save for a rainy day? Is it that they didn't save at all?

Isn't Greece the place where all those big ocean tanker/freighter companies are based? So why are they based there? Cuz it's real cheap maybe, cuz the rich tanker barrons ain't gotta pay much taxes maybe?

I don't know but maybe it's high time some of those tanker barrons bellied up. I mean after all if it weren't a cheap place to call home (low taxed) then they would simply go elsewhere to a more "accommodative" country right? Maybe Greece regrets being so accommodative.

Greece is a speck. Wait till Spain/Portugal et al join the bailout party!

  9. Stag,

The weather here in NJ is horrendous. I've been shoveling like crazy. If this keeps up, I might actually contribute to the Florida or Las Vegas real estate recoveries.

Times sure have changed. The kids appear to be worn out from all the snow they "didn't" shovel. Go figure. In a way, it's like bankers earning bonuses for polluting our money supply.

  15. watchtower,

    WHEW!

For a minute there I thought you were giving me credit for the content, which it certainly was not.

But after a quick check on the ED site I see all is well, and of course I don't mind.

I'd like to take a moment to explain my recent absence from posting here and also a related topic referring to the chart I've been posting repeatedly showing the dollar trend via the UUP ETF.

I said I was going to invest when the UUP confirmed movement above the 195 day line which it did last Wednesday (actually it crossed the line the Friday prior but I usually wait a few days to confirm strength.)

Well, I was all set to enter last Wednesday until at about 8:00AM Wednesday morning my mother had to take my father to the ER with a (recurring) nosebleed that could not be stopped leading to a life threatening situation. Long story short he remained in hospital through Thursday evening with my Mother and I at his side after he underwent a procedure that involved stopping the nosebleed from the inside (yes, the inside via entrance from the groin area!!)

By the time I returned home on Friday and caught up on the dollar and UUP not only had UUP run up fast with me missing my entry point but we had also entered the whole Greece crisis era which may mean that staying away from UUP was a very good thing.

Now, I did not buy UUP. But I learned two very important things about life:

1.) Unfortunately for my investment strategies, I love my Father more than I love money, and

2.) Fortunately for me, I love my Father more than I love money.

My Father is doing fairly well now (I think the excessive medications he is taking now are causing some adverse side effects) but I expect that he will still be around for some time to come and I'm happy for that (cuz there were a few hours there late Wednesday evening in the waiting room where my Mother and I were...well...I was pacing and she was reclusive in a corner.)

It feels better to talk about it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. G.H.,

Glad to hear that your father is doing better! I would have been pacing too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Mark,

It's hard to describe, you really have to experience it to understand. We've all seen movies, soap operas, and heard stories but until you've actually been that close to the prospect of the inevitable you just can't appreciate what comes over you.

You truly do pace. You walk back and forth, back and forth, because you've grown so tired of simply sitting there and whatever is on the TV can't take your mind off and you've finished the book (all 211 pages, "Bubble Man") that you brought with you to pass the time and standing up doesn't help and leaning against the wall or counter doesn't help and going for a drink of water doesn't help and it goes so far as you begin to actually look at the carpet to see if you're wearing a path!!

And then, after you've really looked deep inside and wondered what this could all mean one of the assistants comes in and the only reason you see him come in is because you've strategically placed yourself in a location that allows you to peer into the glass at one end of the room so you'll instantly see the entrance of anyone involved in your Father's life appear in the reflection of the glass at the opposite end of the room so that you can instantly jump to the scene and get the word.

And if you're so lucky as my Mother and I were to get the good word you are not yet done experiencing extreme emotions. For nothing can surpass the feeling of hearing that not only had the bleeding stopped but that the doctors and assistants were impressed with the strength shown by the patient. Damn it feels good to be a son with a living Father.

I will now digress so that we may all return to the regularly scheduled programming already in progress.

The European bailout of Greece is still in doubt. If only the Greeks knew how to court German favor like George Bush:

But wait, that's not all. Call within the next 20 minutes and we'll give you an additional virtual back rub for free. Just pay separate shipping and processing!

'W' can't do this deal all day though.

Strict limit of 5 back rubs per caller.
