The Allure of Free Lunches

The Perth Mint: Free Silver Storage Gone May 1, 2011

As of May 1, 2011 the Perth Mint in Western Australia will no longer offer free storage for unallocated silver.

...

Now here’s the good news: All orders placed on or before April 26th will not be charged storage in the unallocated program. You will be guaranteed free storage for your silver for as long as it is held at the Mint. But to qualify, your Perth Mint order must be placed by April 26th.

...

We urge you to consider doing today what you will not be able to do tomorrow – or at least the tomorrow after April 26th. And that is to buy unallocated silver at the Perth Mint with free storage.

Price of silver on April 26th: $45.48
Price of silver today: $37.77

Relative value of good news: -17%

  1. As a side note, I am not intending to predict here what silver's price will do.

I'm simply pointing out that there were much better days to be buying silver than April 26, 2011.

  2. We totally nailed the silver call. You and I were the only bears on the planet.

I hope you are being really generous with paper towels for yourself.

  3. CP,

The Perth Mint article sure makes me wonder what their future demand will be. It reminds me a bit of a post "cash for clunkers" world.

I have to think that the true believers in silver at any price would surely want to go "all in" before that deadline. Then what?

New crop could bring garlic prices down

Garlic prices will likely come down in June, following almost a year of sustained strong markets.

“If China has a similar harvest as in 2008 and 2009, there will be an oversupply of Chinese garlic to the U.S. and it will drive prices lower,” she said.

Those Chinese! They sure know their horror movies.

  6. As for Zombies, you'll need a chainsaw for that. Chainsaws use oil.

Just trying to connect the dots for you, lol. ;)
