The Sarcasm Report v.177

Obama Urges Greece to Grow Its Economy

In a meeting in the Oval Office, Mr. Obama told Antonis Samaras, the Greek prime minister, that policies focused only on spending reductions would not help Greece return to economic prosperity.

This isn't rocket science. Greece just needs to crank up the monetary passenger car registration printing presses.

Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Economic prosperity restored

  2. Regarding the oil price debate... when the Saudi's first tapped Ghawar the light, sweet stuff flowed so easily it cost them 5 cents a barrel -- loaded on the tanker!

Per the WSJ, the marginal cost of production was $92.26 a barrel for the 50 largest listed oil & as companies in 2011.

    Think about that.

The more we go for shale the worse it gets. High drilling costs, ridiculous decline rates, etc.

I'm simply saying that if total global demand were to fall big time then so too the marginal cost of production.

I'm fairly bearish on the total global demand once the next global recession hits.

Of course, there aren't many of us who think a recession is even possible again, thanks to the infinite healing powers of perma-ZIRP, lol. Sigh.

In any event, I have no direct bets on oil either way.

I'm positioned fairly well in theory if oil prices rise until the point of exhaustion. Perhaps not optimal, but far better than those who are swinging for the exponentially increasing retail sales fences!

Cheap plastic crap in, cheap paper crap out!

It's all about the trade balance. ;)

  5. Took me 8 hrs to rebuild my Windows 7 dev environment (I deleted the partition when I installed 10.9) but only an hour to get my MonoGame code working on the original Microsoft XNA / Visual Studio 10 toolchain.

    Sweeet!

So I can code to Windows desktop, Windows Phone (who cares), Android, Ouya (no take-up yet but a fun little box), iOS, and Mac.

Plus the Sony ecosystem maybe since their PSM dev environment is entirely Mono-based for hobby dev.

    C# && Mono are awesome!

  6. Troy,

You sure know how to motivate me into writing my own game! ;)

In all seriousness, it makes me cringe. Been there, done that.

  7. Well, two+ hours of it was creating the USB install image on a bootable USB . . . on a Mac.

I ended up first installing my Win7 ISO in a VM (VirtualBox is pretty damn good for free sw), using Microsoft's tool for making the key, then in OS X remembering how to change the fake MBR on my GPT hard drive to one that Windows will at least tolerate and hopefully respect.

But yeah, the cavalcade of updates after installation was pretty jaw-dropping and time-consuming.

Too bad Micros~1 killed XNA, man. Best thing the company ever did, outside of the optical mouse maybe.

MonoGame community is taking over at least. There's also a parallel effort to put MonoGame over SDL2, now that's really cooking with (cross-platform) gas, LOL.

  8. Troy,

I mowed the yard today. Played a bit of Dai Senryaku Exceed 7!

I'm not sure my accomplishments stack up all that well compared to yours. ;)
