For computer chip builders, only one way to go: Up
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- In the race to build a faster computer chip, there is literally nowhere to go but up. Today's chip surfaces are packed with the tiniest electronic switches the laws of physics allow, but Intel Corp. says it is blowing past those limits with a breakthrough, three-dimensional transistor design it revealed Wednesday.
It is real prosperity. No doubt about it. The question will be how that prosperity is distributed. On the one hand, now I'm really looking forward to the video games of the future. On the other hand, this should help eliminate human work at an accelerated pace.
The Jetsons
George Jetson: age 40, is a loving family man who always seems to make the wrong decision. He works "full-time," 9 hours a week, at Spacely's Sprockets as a computer engineer.
These advantages include increased welding speed and relief from the harsh welding environment for the human welder.
The human welder must be very pleased. Perhaps we need more strip malls to help fill the employment gap though.

The future of the strip mall: downhill
E-Commerce means fewer and smaller stores
Today, the nation’s “healthiest” retailer is not Wal-Mart or Costco. It is Amazon. Amazon has exploited the increasing availability of broadband Internet and mobile technology to build a retail superpower. One of the biggest reasons why the strip is coming to an end is because bricks-and-mortar stores are becoming a smaller part of the retail landscape.
Then again, maybe not.
All is not lost. Perhaps we'll find a way to pull something from the future in order to fill the gap. I think I have some of it in my wallet right now. It is made of plastic. I can't wait for the word to get out. It truly is a miraculous substance.
Here's a chart showing the ratio of "Household Credit Market Debt Outstanding" to "Wage and Salary Disbursements". What a ride! We just need to do more of that!
I know what you must be thinking. You'd like to short it right? Get real. This isn't an overpriced stock. It is the "lifeblood" of our economy.

ReplyDeleteStag,
The lifeblood has been sucked out of the eCONomy. Only Gov't spending is keeping the patient alive.
CONsumption debt is the road to ruin imo. No way would people have ever taken on so much debt without the lies from Wall St. about rising asset prices.
The eCONomics "profession" has become a lobbying organization for financial looters.
It's not an accident that proponents of free (for all) markets and bailouts like Greensham and Bernanke were put in charge.
Greensham and Bernanke are Kanamits.
It's a cook book!

"It's a Cookbook!" Ahah... I get it!
Be sure to see the clip from Naked Gun 2 1/2 at the end. We're all swimming naked now that the tide has gone out.
Stag,
ReplyDeleteNow that the "tide" has come back "in" and we're "drowning" in debt, Bernanke has burned the naked shorts and is holding a gun to the heads of savers.
It's all about encouraging people to hold fraudulent credit as "wealth".
