Apple Inc. (AAPL) Q3 2015 Profits Reach $10.7 Billion, Misses Slightly On iPhone 6 Sales

4th paragraph:
"Apple's iPhones, led by the iPhone 6, drove most of its revenue, with 47.5 million iPhones sold in the quarter, up 35 percent from the 35.2 million units sold in the same period of the previous year."

Apple is utterly raping the tech world right now. The iOS stuff is still a year or three ahead of Android OS. Microsoft drifted off into la-la land 2002-2012, just like the old Apple did in the 1990s.
Apple is spending $2B per quarter on R&D now, that's 20X what it was when I was there in a previous life (and salaries are up maybe 1.3X, tops, since then)
Apple sold 4.7M Macs in the quarter (which is actually a dead quarter for Apple), more than the total number of Apple IIs sold in the 1980s, total Macs sold 1984-1990, and more than any other year prior to Macs going x86 in 2006.
Their Watch is probably the typical first-gen product. The 2010 iPad I have is a real clunker compared to the 2014 iPad Air 2, and it took 5 years for them to make a decent Mac, too for that matter (when the IIcx was announced in 1989 I went bonkers for it)
Apple's strategy in China is correct. The Chinese upper quintile of earners is a helluva market to corner. Like laptops to some extent, phones, being portable, are goods shown in public, providing their makers free advertising. Apple can have an R&D footprint the size of booth GOOG and MSFT, its two main competitors in tech.
I've got Windows 10 and 10.11 on the same machine, and 10.11 is just so much more polished and put together better than Windows, kinda like the Windows 3 vs System 7 days of the early 1990s.
Troy,
Apple is certainly killing it. No argument over that.
For what it is worth though, I cannot ever see myself wear an Apple Watch. It isn't just a late adopter mindset (like I was with smart phones). It is a no adopter mindset.
Perhaps I am the exception and not the rule, but I stopped wearing any wrist watches more than a decade ago. I'm hard pressed to think of any other technology that I have abandoned like that.
I saw one amusingly sarcastic comment the other day. The guy said he was holding off buying an Apple Watch until they released Apple Glasses. He figures the glasses could alert him when his watch gets a message.
I wear glasses and could, in theory, adopt smart glasses someday. I think it will be many years before that's likely though. I prefer really light glasses that are relatively unassuming, which is pretty much the opposite of what's come out so far. You'd have to pay me by the hour to wear Google Glass. Seriously.
This coming from a guy who also doesn't wear any jewelry though.
I can see getting an Apple watch if it gets the same 5 year boost that the 1984 Mac, 2007 iPhone, or 2010 iPad got.
Utterly thin on the wrist, 24hr battery life, 5G service (coming in 2020 apparently)
The iPhone just adds to the hassle of carrying a phone, the watch would lessen it.
How am I going to play the games I like to play on a watch? I don't have microscopic vision.
How am I going to make phone calls using my wrist?
1. Obnoxiously loud speaker phone?
2. Contorting my wrist to the sweet spot between my ear and mouth?
3. Earphones that I carry in my pocket to plug into my watch?
None of those options sound even remotely appealing to me. I'm not Dick Tracy. My small phone fits nicely in the front pocket of my shorts. It's a "problem" that requires no solution, at least for me.
No desire to wear a watch again in my lifetime without some very compelling reason to do so. Not seeing it.
so you're saying I should get an iPhone 6C instead of a new iPod Touch this year ? : )
I dropped my 2009 iPod Touch last week and it got a small scratch in the corner.
Plus the battery doesn't last all that long.
All I can really say for sure is how amazed I am that I am thoroughly enjoying the free to play 3D Real Racing 3 game on such a tiny iPhone screen!
I haven't played many games on the PS3 (hooked up to a big screen TV) since I got the phone, if any. No joke.
Here's hoping Apple soon puts that iPhone 6 goodness in a $99 TV box for 3rd party development!
With iOS 9 they've got some really great gaming APIs, better than anything Microsoft shipped with DirectX (well, DirectMusic was kinda cool I guess).
I'm just still super-chuffed that a mere $800 totally updated me from ca 2006 tech to the bleeding edge (4GHz four-core x64 CPU, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD), thanks to the hackintosh community.
4GB felt like a lot in 2006, but damn if OS X doesn't need 6GB to avoid any and all paging . . .
Swift is no C#, but I feel better going with native tooling for my "Apple TV" project. so much less risk involved.
And I hate risk!
