Retirement Shouldn't Be Numbers Game
Sharpe offers an alternative to the 4% rule. Instead, invest in TIPS (Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities). If those returns prove insufficient, an investor can always dial up portfolio risk and seek better returns.
Yes! You can always dial up that portfolio risk in retirement. That magic always works. Further, there's no better time to be taking on more risk than when you don't have a job to fall back on.
If you find that the dollar you saved is insufficient to meet your needs, then here's a way to dial up portfolio risk and seek 3,500% returns! Just pick your favorite number on the roulette wheel. I'll even share a secret with you to get you started.
Roulette
A legend tells François Blanc supposedly bargained with the devil to obtain the secrets of roulette. The legend is based on the fact that the sum of all the numbers on the roulette wheel (from 1 to 36) is 666, which is the "Number of the Beast".
Can I believe that what I saw that night was real and not just fantasy?
If one must take on more risk in this environment (especially with retirement savings), here's one contrarian tactic that might work though.
At least in the 1930s, some professional gamblers were able to consistently gain an edge in roulette by seeking out rigged wheels (not difficult to find at that time) and betting opposite the largest bets.
I'm not trying to suggest that the markets are rigged though. Heavens no. This clearly isn't anything like the 1930s.

I always play #16 on the wheel, its my lucky number.
I have to say, this was the best music tribute post you have ever written! As I am an impartial observer in regards to the song, you know I am sincere.
GYSC,
I was tempted to bring you pain and misery through a Rock Band tribute, but I figured I'd be pushing it. ;)
And yes, it is as hard as it looks. I'm pretty good at Rock Band but I'm not THAT good!
Loved the tune! Do they have Dragonforce "Through the Fire and the Flames" for Rock Band? That stuff is impossible!
GYSC,
For pure finger torture...
Visions
I really don't care much for the song but I am amazed that at least one person can play it without making any mistakes (especially at the 1:05 mark).
Keep in mind that you only have 4 fingers on your left hand to push buttons since the thumb is actually holding the guitar. So when you see a streak of 5 different notes you have to shift your fingers to compensate.
By the way, that's actually a girl singing the song apparently. It's got to be a sign of the apocalypse, lol.
