Here's what we have going for us that he apparently does not.
You and I both realize that we could probably sing worse.
So what good is that you might ask? Easy!
It implies that we are not tone deaf. We simply lack the skill to sing well.
Since we are not tone deaf and we know what it sounds like when we sing, we choose to avoid doing so in public.
It is just one more survival skill in our arsenal, lol. ;)
