Spot the economic recovery in the chart and win a prize!
You can't win if you don't play.
The '82 V-shaped recovery is pretty hard to miss. As is the resolution of the Gulf War, heralding the collapsing energy prices of the '90's; albeit not in time to help George HW Bush. What do I win? :-)
230 lbs of meat per person?
That's over a half pound a day.
Goddamn that's a lot of meat. I don't deny myself anything on my current regimen but what I do do is portion control -- about half that is my daily meat intake.
I might have an In n Out double-double occasionally, but that quarter pound will be my meat quota for the day.
Man, the full chart shows a minimum of 100 bs , except during the worst of the depression.
That's about my present ration, LOL, a quarter to a third a pound a day.
It hit me a couple of years ago that I never, ever go a day without meat, LOL.
we're going to have a $300B trade imbalance with China this year. Saying half of that is Triffin freebie, that's still $150B of trade we need from them.
And meat is something they need and we have.
At $5 per pound that's 100lbs per capita, knocking our consumption to just below Depression levels.
Higher food exports in the future is not something anyone had plugged into their calculators I think.
Except Buffett. He's got the choo-choos to carry it now.
AllanF,
You win one large meaty thigh at the regular price if you buy an additional large meaty thigh at that same price!*
* Just pay separate shipping and handling. ;)
Troy,
230 lbs of meat per person?
Don't forget to eat extra on the off chance our nations babies don't eat their fair share, lol.
What I wouldn't give to be able to edit comments.
"Our nations babies" could sure use an apostrophe. Sigh.
Smoked trout for lunch. Does fish count as meat?
How can you have any meat if you don't eat your pudding? By the way, which one is Pink?
dearieme,
Does fish count as meat?
That's a good question. As seen in the spreadsheet within the link, they are only counting chicken, turkey, beef, and pork.
And then there is this...
Meat
One definition that refers to meat as not including fish developed over the past few hundred years and has religious influences. The distinction between fish and "meat" is codified by the Jewish dietary law of kashrut, regarding the mixing of milk and meat, which does not forbid the mixing of milk and fish. Modern Jewish legal practice (halakha) on kashrut classifies the flesh of both mammals and birds as "meat"; fish are considered to be parve, neither meat nor a dairy food. The Catholic dietary restriction on "meat" on Fridays also does not apply to the cooking and eating of fish.
mab,
How can you have any meat if you don't eat your pudding?
Share it fairly but don't take a slice of my pie. Money, so they say, is the root of all evil today.
