U.S. Port Traffic Down

Port Tracker report says 2007 traffic volumes off compared to last year
As was reported in last month’s report, retail container traffic is expected to remain flat or below last year’s levels, coupled with a weak U.S. economy affecting all transportation modes until the second half of 2008 at the earliest.

“Even with relatively slow growth continuing in 2008, for longer-term planning, companies should not assume that the current weak economy and slow growth conditions are now the norm,” said Bingham. “The business cycle is still with us and just because the U.S. is in the down cycle currently does not mean companies can ignore a future recovery and a return to trade volume growth.”
