The Glass Driving Ceiling

A glass driving ceiling is a political term used to describe "the unseen, yet unbreakable barrier that keeps a society from exponentially growing the number of miles driven each year, regardless of population increases and the level of automobile advertising dollars spent."

Doesn't look good from here.

That said, this upside down parabola trend must fail someday. There's no way we can ever drive fewer miles than zero. In the meantime, I think there's plenty of room to the downside (especially if we enter another recession soon).
