Money: 10 Things You Won't Believe Used to Cost $1,000
While today's calfs are incredibly valuable, going for $1,300 at auction, a grand used to buy you 35 animals.
What'? There's been inflation? Shocking! I can't believe it!!
You could even have a small herd of 10 for $1,000 up until the end of World War II, but after that, America's growing fast food addiction made beef a big business.
The US dollar lost 92.4% of its value from September of 1945 to July of 2015. I'm therefore fairly certain that America's growing fast food addiction had absolutely nothing to do with it. Might just as well be blaming the moon landing in 1969 for high beef prices too while you are at it.
$1,300 x 7.6% = $98.80
Funny how $98.80 is roughly the same as $100 (10 for $1,000). That means, in inflation adjusted terms, cattle are roughly the same price now as they were at the end of World War II.
I would never have believed it! Damn you inflation for making things so unbelievable!
Forehead. Desk. Whack. Whack. Whack.
