Over the Long-Term, Why We're Really F%^ked

Forbes: Bill Gates Is Wrong

At the risk of sounding like “that guy” in a science fiction novel, the machine is not here to hurt you. Human beings create the machine and any ethical, sane person would want the machine to benefit life.

Salem gives you a modern filter plus rich tobacco taste, smoothed with menthol, softened with fresh air, for Salem's special paper breathes in fresh air with every puff, to bring you Salem's air softened taste.

Forbes: Why (Some) Psychopaths Make Great CEOs

fudge_hend said...

Who are you going to believe. Bill Gates, Elon Musk, etc....

Or John Thuma. He nearly had me at, "In my role as an analytics evangelist" but not quite yet. But then when I clicked through to read his bio and saw:

-John considers himself a player coach; in other words, he’s active in technology and keeps his hands on the keyboard.

Well damn. Put him in charge of skynet. The last player coach I can recall was Pete Rose. At least we know John will be betting on the humans when he's player coach.

post script: It took me two chances to verify I wasn't a robot; seems appropriate. The tests to verify that you are a human keep getting tougher and tougher. At what point does it become so difficult that only a robot can verify they are a human.

fudge_hend,

All of the machines are here to help!! None of them will take on the psychopathic tendencies of their owners. Trust me!

Dish Network Might Face Record Fines For Breaking Federal Laws

In my own case, Dish Network made my own life a living Hell, by forcing me to run to the phone so many times when I was caring for two sick elderly parents, who both later died, and I had to answer so many of their abusive telemarketing calls when I was making funeral arrangements and for months afterwards while I was involved in the complex probate proceedings. Dish Network caused me substantial loss of time and aggravation. And every request I made of the company to stop calling my number was ignored until I made another request in writing to the company where I informed them that I would bill them for economic damages and charge them $35 per phone call for each 100 unwanted phone calls I received from them if they won't stop. Only this finally deterred the company from making hundreds of robocalls to my phone number.

Okay, there may be a few exceptions. The vast majority of the machines may, under the proper circumstances, do less harm than some of the other machines though. I'm fairly confident of that, lol. Sigh.

Vending machines are already twice as lethal as sharks; sans lasers I assume. Clearly they are evolving into blood lusting machines of death and will soon be the apex land predator. That's not even counting their evil plot to poison us with cigarettes and snack foods. Clearly an uprising against the machines is long overdue.
