Gang Warfare: USA vs. Japan

September 8, 2015
Japan's biggest mafia group is splitting up

The Yamaguchi-gumi's last internal rebellion in 1984 resulted in five straight years of gang warfare that killed and injured several civilians, according to media reports.

Several, huh? Over five straight years of fighting, eh?

The latest example occurred early Friday morning. One person was killed and two others were wounded in an apparent car-to-car shooting in the 9400 block of Central Avenue in South L.A.

The shooting was part of a recent wave of bloodshed sparked by a troubling surge in gang violence.

We may be falling behind in math, science, and reading. Perhaps we no longer lead the world in manufacturing. It's possible that our politicians aren't the world's most respected. But you know what? When it comes to gang violence and overflowing prison populations, we're doing just fine, thank you very much.

Gang violence productivity, baby. That's what I'm talking about. The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.
