Nasty Limerick of the Day

There once was a clerk named Kim Davis
Who once had an active young pelvis
She was in charge of the law
But there was a bad flaw
She "needs" to see one but just one person's penis!

So, drop those trousers if you want to get a marriage license from the government. She's doing God's work.

In all seriousness, I am thankful that we don't live in a Theocracy. Very thankful. Now if we could just get "In God We Trust" off of our money. Which God? I sure hope it isn't Khepri, because I have to tell you, the Egyptian God of dung beetles doesn't inspire much confidence!

Where does it end? Polygamy? Bestiality? Is NAMBLA going to get their way?

Common decency is no more.

For what it is worth, I would say it ends when the government gets out of the "what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes" business. Animals aren't consenting adults nor are children.

And as for common decency, has there ever been any? This world has experienced many holy wars involving the killing of humans by other humans, It doesn't get much more indecent to me than that. Sigh.

This coukd have been avoided if the government wiuld have stayed out of the marriage business and instead would have been in the civil union business.

The founding fathers wanted a separation of church and state. So do I.

“The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.” - Thomas Jefferson

Please forgive the typos. The better I type on this phone, the faster I seem to want to type. But the faster I type, the worse I type. D'oh! ;)

Consenting adults? Doesn't the government define who is a legal adult? And 18 wasn't always the legal definition and it likely won't be in the future. Women (girls?) used to be married off well before 18. Today behavior of that type can be considered rape.

Of course if you want alcohol then you need to be 21. And we had children in sweat shops not too long ago. The churches fought against this.

Some jump to blame the government. Others jump to blame religion. Maybe one should blame the corruption of government, religion and the will of the decent majority.

As for common decency it did and still exists. The majority are and have been decent though they are being corrupted by bad narratives. Narratives that their parents, spiritual leaders and government officials never would have tolerated in silence.

Who drives the narratives and why are people afraid to speak against them?

Anonymous,

That's a good quote.

I find it more than a bit odd than one can enter the military as early as age 17 with parental permission and presumably fire a weapon with intent to kill, but one must wait until age 21 before one can purchase alcohol. It seems to me that the two ages should be the same.

Another long-standing pet peeve of mine is that the sale of lawn darts has been banned. We live in a world where I can purchase a gun (and have), yet I cannot buy a lawn dart? Seriously? Of course, there was no powerful lawn dart lobby. Sigh.

As for common decency, as it relates to this topic, I know and have known people who who are gay. I'm related to one of them. I don't have a problem with it. In my eyes, the ones I have met are all decent people.

I am not religious. I do believe that doing unto others as you would want them doing unto you is generally a pretty good idea. The world would certainly be a lot better place if everyone thought that way.

Live and let live.
